Peer-to-peer accommodation marketplace Airbnb is now available in South Africa, with 3,180 places available to stay country-wide. With around 1462 listings in Cape Town, 452 in Johannesburg and the rest spread across the country, there are diverse opportunities for people to learn more about the way of life in South Africa.
While the demand for Airbnb accommodation in South Africa may not be as great as other countries yet, enterprising South Africans have found that once interest has piqued because of this global renting platform, more and more tourists will come to Cape Town and other cities, making it a viable alternative income stream for South African residents.
New Airbnb host, Brigid Prinsloo, is now able to live rent-free within only months of listing on the network. She listed the room on January 31, 2014 and was surprised to find out that within only an hour of signing up, she already received her first enquiry.Within the first day of listing, she already got her first booking and within three days, her first guest arrived.
