Hotels get collaborative with a new range of rentals

They may be competing with peer-to-peer accommodation options such as Airbnb and One Fine Stay for their guests, but some new collaborative consumption-oriented offerings from major hotel brands like Hyatt and Westin show they are definitely looking to stay relevant to the changing demographic of travellers.

USA Today reports a number of borrowing and lending programs popping up to provide hotel guests with creature comforts they are used to at home, but can’t fit in the average carry-on bag. Everything from New Balance gym clothing at Westin Resorts to electronic appliances through Candlewood Suite’s ‘Lending Lockers’ to accessories and jewellery at Hyatt Union Square’s ‘Accessories Butler’ are on offer for rental or purchase through these innovative new programs, which are engendering more communication between guests and employees, and bringing back the element of surprise to the travel experience.
