This is the third post in a three-part series covering the visits of collaborative consumption influencers to South Korea.
Collaborative consumption has had quite a boom in South Korea since Seoul, the country’s capital, declared itself to be “Sharing City.” Creative Commons Korea organized an online portal called “Sharehub” that serves to educate and inform citizens about the Sharing City, share news about the sharing economy and provide a directory of sharing services. And recently several collaborative consumption pioneers have visited South Korea and met CCKorea activists.
Adryan Haligh is an entrepreneur who currently manages Sharee, a collaborative consumption start-up providing fashion, skill, and space-sharing services in Indonesia. Adryan became interested in sharing economy after listening to Rachel Botsman’s TEDxSydney talk “The Case for Collaborative Consumption“.
Recently, Adryan visited Creative Commons Korea Office to discuss how collaborative consumption was growing, and what kind of sharing economy services are available in Korea. Adryan explained that sharing boom began in Indonesia late last year. Because Indonesia suffers from housing insufficiency and severe traffic congestion, many Indonesian residents are interested in carsharing and housesharing.
South Korea has suffered from similar problems, and collaborative consumption has emerged as an alternative to insufficiency of resources. Young entrepreneurs who are passionate about solving social problems have started collaborative consumption services in South Korea. WOOZOO, for instance, is a young start-up introducing co-housing concepts and organizing Sharehouse, to solve the current housing insufficiency. SOCAR provides car sharing services to try to ease daily traffic congestion and expand the culture of collaborative consumption.
There are extremely positive movements of young collaborative consumption entrepreneurs in South Korea, so the future of collaborative consumption in South Korea is brighter than ever before.
