Google: the Latest Collaborative Consumption Startup?

google-logo1Rumors have it that search giant Google is the latest to play in the collaborative consumption space. According to Google Operating System’s Alex Chitu, Google is working on an app called Google Mine for cataloging, reviewing and requesting from friends everyday items such as cars, bikes, CDs and clothes. Available on Android and in the browser, the app is currently in beta and built off of the Google+ platform.

It’s no secret that the operations of real-world sharing is quite difficult to scale — and it will certainly be interesting to watch Google tackle the challenge. Perhaps Google Mine is just another data play for the real world.
