People have probably been giving you this advice your whole life, but now that there’s a whole day dedicated to it, you should probably listen: Sharing is good.
So good, in fact, that The People Who Share, a UK-based organisation focused on promoting collaborative consumption services and activities, is launching Global Sharing Day, this Wednesday 14 November.
Getting involved on Global Sharing Day can be as simple as swapping party dresses with a friend instead of buying a new one, or as complex as creating a tool-sharing system for everyone on your block. The point is: Life is cheaper, greener, and more connected when we pool our resources – so let’s get behind this. And if that’s not enough incentive to get you across the line: there’s a contest! Join us at 1 o’clock pm local time for The Greatest Share on Earth.
Here is our pick of activities to get involved in on Global Sharing Day:
The Greatest Share on Earth
Aiming to set a world record for the number of ‘simultaneous’ shares, The Greatest Share on Earth encourages people to come together to share or swap something between 1pm-2pm local time on Global Sharing Day. Organise a swapping event at work or in your local community and register it on the Global Sharing Day Meetup page.
Skilio’s Global Skills Swap
Online peer-to-peer learning marketplace Skilio is offering a full day of skillsharing sessions, with hosts from countries around the world teaching classes on bread-making, business strategy, effective ice-breakers and introductory Mandarin Chinese!
Shareable Magazine Australian launch
Online sharing economy magazine Shareable is hosting the launch of their Australian channel at Hub Melbourne, highlighting the growing collaborative consumption movement across the country.
SharedSquared Global Sharing Day Celebration
NYC-based collaborative consumption advocacy group SharedSquared is hosting a pop-up library swap meet with Let’s Collaborate NYC, between 1pm-5pm in the lobby of The Alley – you must RSVP to participate on the day.
Global Sharing Day Super Swish
UK clothes swapping organisation Swishing is encouraging everyone to clean out their closets and host a clothes swapping parting for their biggest ‘Super Swish’ yet.
How will you participate in Global Sharing Day? Tell us about what is happening in your area on our Facebook group or include the #collcons and #globalsharingday hashtags.
